I think it's very unlikely that there is no other organisms somewhere else in our vast universe. How evolved they maybe is up in the air though in our galaxy we haven't found any evolved organisms even though there are plants that have the potential to support life. Oh and about looking at the stars if the light is more than thousands upon thousands of years away its most likely is not visible with the naked eye though with the aid of telescopes we are able to see into the "past" of stars.
