Unless the Kyuubi would have some sort of master plan, but I don't see him as a great mastermind.
Maybe what the Kyuubi meant was, when Sasuke would try to kill Naruto, the Kyuubi would save Naruto with his chakra and then kill Sasuke (like in the fight between Naruto and Sasuke on the lake, where the kyuubi healed Naruto's wound by the chidori).
So that means the Kyuubi would die, unless for some reason he just doesn't want Naruto to die.
All the points you made are definitely possible.
I guess it kind of depends upon your exact definition of release.

If, they are supernatural entities formed due to negative human emotions, then the current Kyūbi would perish, if Sasuke were to kill Naruto. But if that what creates the Kyūbi still exists (and considering human nature that's almost a given), then eventually a new Kyūbi would be formed. Possibly with the memories of the previous one (situation akin to that of a Phoenix) and that one would subsequently hunt Sasuke down for some payback.

The Kyūbi has an ego, which is comparable to that of Gabriel from the movie The Prophecy. It doesn't seem to like to take any insults from anything that it considers a lesser being, and compared to it, nearly everything is a lesser being.

I'm guessing that death would be an inconvenience to such a creature, even if it could reform itself.

Guess all of this also depends upon what exactly the bijū are, what created them, sustains them etc.
