Love Hina
Promises. They can break people who don't fulfill them. So what do you do when you make a childhood promise to your best friend to make it into Tokyo University, the hardest college to get into in Japan, your friend disappears, and 16 years later, you've failed your college entrance exams twice?
You move into your grandmother's all-girl dormitory and get kicked, punched, pinched, slapped, bitten, blown-up, and go through several other obstacles to somehow prove your anime body is immortal!
Love Hina is a romantic comedy from the author of Negima! Magister Negi Magi and A.I. Love You, Akamatsu Ken-sensei. Based loosely on his own life, Ken takes you into the story of Urashima Keitaro, a two-time ronin who's tried to Tokyo U, or Toudai, and is going for a third.
He ends up living at his grandmother's all-girl dormitory, where he meets the fiesty but sweet-at-heart Naru, the writer with a diesel libido Mitsune otherwise known as Kitsune, the lovable little cutie Shinobu, the oddball from another country Su, and the calm swordswoman with a fear of turtles Motoko. He begins studying with Naru and ends up falling in love. The sweet innocence of it all is enough to get your own heart fluttering, as Keitaro runs into problem after problem, being labeled a pervert and an idiot.
Oddly, he's actually quite serious about his dream and his promise, and even if the others bully him nearly all the time, he finds a way through it one way or another. Keitaro's vast personal experiences allow him to give help to the girls of the dormitory, which he ends up becoming manager of. He even meets the clutzy beauty Mutsumi, and Naru gets a little jealous. A love triangle forms, and the origins behind the promise of Keitaro's childhood come to light. Will he go after the girl from back then, or stay where he is and confess his love to the girl he likes now?
Love Hina, Ani Hina in Japan, will have you dying of laughter every step of the way as Keitaro gets himself into bad situations that get the crap beaten out of him. Heck, a giant onion shaped object falls on him and all he gets is a broken leg!
Of course you'll have "Oooh"s and "Ahhh"s when you see the secret bond forming between the group. You'll definitely want to watch this wonderfully done anime from the work of Akamatsu Ken! Love Hina is the one comedy you won't want to miss, especially with all the itty bitty bits of fan service.
"Promises give us hope for a new, hopefully better, perhaps even different future."
