yeah, frankencomputers or patched up stock computers aren't really uncommon, and in my opinion are better. (Unless it's a higher end badass with liquid-cooling and stuff, lmfao).
Of course, you still have limitations with compatibility. Make sure you check out your mobo, it's probably the most important thing to consider when making a computer. Also, if the original HD was SATA, i don't see why the 140 wouldn't be. It seems like the original owner just got some extra space and more memory.
