Really? I thought the emotional hooks were fine. If you got tired of them after only 13 episodes... D:! I'm sure they would have told the story differently if there was more episodes, though.
I'm not sure about the extra Fear, or about Pity. Maybe another hook while Nyu was around? Also, towards the end, things changed quite a bit, didn't they?

Also, towards the end, things changed quite a bit, didn't they? Spoiler Like when Nana left to fight.. that could be seen as pity, but if it is, I don't see much previously. (Unless you count in Mayu being sexually abused. In anycase, both pity cases were quite different!) Another case of the emotional hooks being lots different is Lucy/Kouta's side story of the past. Atleast, it all kept me interested through the show. I didn't think there was too much gore or anything either, though I know some people will think that. (Not that I'm asking for excess gore, I just understood why they did it, and thought it turned out to be an awesome story/show...)
