Best Story? Final Fantasy 7. I've played through it at least 5 times just to experience the little events with different party members.

Best Gameplay though is Final Fantasy 5. The job system was perfect. Want a White Mage who could do more damage than a Knight using only their bare hands? Done. Oh you want a Thief that can use Black Magic eh? Done! What's that? A Knight that can heal? Oh come on that's imposs- wait no I mean DONE!
