I didn't say anything about making stuff up.. Simple forgetting to mention certain details or being unaware of said details would be enough.
Villainy 101, the best way to hide a lie, is to hide it amongst the truth.
So he disavows siccing the Demon-fox after Konoha shortly after Naruto was born, that's about the only mistake he made.
The rest, like being the one behind the rebel Uchiha's, or him ordering Itachi to kill off the Uchiha loyalists.. Why mention such petty details, which will only confuse the poor boy..
Madara differs little from Orochimaru with his scheming and his obsession with conflict.
