Dude they cant get rid of piracy at all, there are legal sites out there that provide full tracks that are easy to get. Jamglue for instance gives out tracks illegally. It's not possible to stop piracy, people are even setting up direct downloads for illegal things now.
And it does matter if its shit quality because people wont stop downloading until they give out something worth using. That's why it will always matter about the quality of their work.
As for people being idiots when they go out and buy something that is shit quality, it IS idiotic to waste money on something when you can get it for FREE. That has nothing to do with MMOs or what people prefer because the one that's better in that case is WoW which costs money. Completely irrelevant.
And the point about improving their product isnt to eliminate piracy, it's to decrease the need for it. It's out everywhere on every forum. Companies like funimation produce crap products. If they produced something worth getting people would get it. It would decrease piracy, of course people would still pirate, but it would significantly increase the number of supporters they have.
And there are more fans then there are corporates. They aren't going to ever shut down pirateing unless they take away rights over the net. And that wont happen any time soon. There will always be an easier way to get it for free, and I mean ALWAYS so unless they produce other means of getting customers Anime on the net will remain the same. You know yourself how many fans there are, as you stated it in your reply.
The point is that they need better products and they cant stop fansubbers, even if they try to shut them down, same goes for music. There are more fans than there are corporates it's that simple.
