Ok, you will hate me, but I say Light Yagami from Death Note. He is such a dirtbag, speaking about some "paradise" he is gonna create, but it is all for him to become a god of this paradise, thus going to any extent to achieve it, killing people, not only because they are "evil" - his ideas of good and evil are themselves quite questionable, but for him to enforce them this fiercely, that's again another point on the list - but also because they know too much. I was just furious when he made Ray Penbar's widow (forgot her name, sorry) commit suicide, just because she knew his alter ego Kira can kill in other ways than causing heart attacks. He goes on murdering like that, killing M and the news woman (forgot her name as well) to cover his tracks.

There are characters which are really annoying, but Light's development touched me the most.

Yes, Light is a hypocrit, but I really liked him in the beginning. I agree with everything he did until he killed Takada (That's the reporter Feanor mentioned.) I think at some point he grew less concerned with his ideal world and more with the act of using the death note.
