Best? Don't think it exists.

More often the opening themes and ending songs are just a waste of time in my no so humble opinion. These are some of the ones I do like though.

Note the subs on the opening song above are not up to specs, this is from the second half of the first season. They had it correct in the first half, just can't find any clips with the theme song from that time frame.

LOL i completely agree with you. can't remember a thing when it comes to japanese...
even character's names, i get it all mixed up if it's longer than 5 letters...

Orange Range - Asterisk (I don't need to tell you where that song is from...)

My favorites in no particular order would have to be:

Fullmetal Alchemist - "Rewrite" ( The opening used in the final episodes )
- The song is just damn catchy and the video that goes with it is the culmination of everything that is good about that series. The first time I saw the waterfall scene with this music playing I had a joygasm.

Higurashi no Naku Kori ni - Opening song "Same name as series"
- This one really sets the mood. Listening to this while seeing Rena lick blood off her wrist sent chills down my spine.

Lucky Star - Opening "Motteke! Sailor Fuku"
- I watched the opening to this series all the way through for each and every episode. I'll even fire up the song on Youtube once in a while. It's that good.

Gunslinger Girl - Opening "The Light before we Land"
- The song is actually what drew me into the series.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - While both the opening and closing songs are awesome they can't hold a candle to that one song that plays during most of the episodes ( usually when Haruhi is scheming ). The one with the heavy drums that kind of sounds reminiscent of the George of the Jungle theme. I wish I knew the name of it.
