Which anime do you guys think would make the best live action movie. because im predicting the dbz movie will be a failure. list what you think will make a good live action film
Black Lagoon, although casting is everything with this series, if there's no onscreen chemistry between Rock and Reby than forget about it.
Side note..
Dutch = Wesley Snipes, if they can't get him, forget about it as well.
Also Mr Chang = Chow Yun Fat, again, can't get him, forget about it.
I'd let John Woo handle the direction btw, this movie seems to mesh well with his style of direction.
Gunslinger girl: Feel of the movie, akin to the TV series La Femme Nikita, lot of moral greys. They should borrow heavily from the movie Leon as well, as to how to pull this off. Good scriptwriter is essential for this movie.
Witch Hunter Robin. Nothing too fancy with the special effects, so it should be doable on a reasonable budget and without looking too hokey. Kind of like Charmed meets NYPD Blue or Law and Order
Not so sure, if mecha would work well. Yes, Transformers was decent from what I've heard, but it's still quite risky. You might end up relying too much on CGI to make a decent movie.
Golgo 13 has had live action movies apparently.
Himitsu maybe, I've not seen enough of the series yet to fully know where they intend to go with the show. But if they'd go down the thriller route, then I'd suggest letting Miss Foster handle direction. She seems to know her thrillers well enough to know what would work and what not.
Lot of the other animes have elements, which would just come off hokey in live action. Onegai Teacher for instance, great series, but let Hollywood near it and it's going to get cringe worthy. The various harem animes.. *shivers*
Heck, I wouldn't even trust them with Hellsing, and you'd think that this has all the hallmarks of a summer blockbuster.
You pretty much have to pick the series that they're the least liable to muck up with their pursuit of the quick buck.
Going too cerebral like Serial Experiment Lain or even something like Elfen Lied and its discourse on what makes a person human as well as how inhuman humanity can be at times. It wouldn't work.
And I just know that with Burst Angel, that they'd have either Jo or Meg hook up with Kyohei, irrespective of the subtext between Jo and Meg, and how Kyohei is just the initial hook to familiarize folks with the setting/cast.
↑ I agree with you on Black Lagoon, Gunslinger Girl. The Wesley Snipes comment made me laugh.. so perfect.
You gave good explanations on everythign else, too, just saying I really agree on your first two paragraphs.
Well after seeing the Death Note live action movie it's safe to assume that if you pick the right sort of anime ( read: one that isn't laden with too many crazy effects ) you can get a pretty decent flick out of it.
That being said I would really like to see a Haruhi Suzumiya live action film. As long as they set aside at least 20 minutes for the Adventures of Mikuru somewhere in there then I'm fine. For extra points they could make the movie out of sequence Pulp Fiction style as a nod to the original airing order.
I'd also pay exorbitant amounts of money to travel to Japan just to see it in theaters if Aya Hirano plays Haruhi.
it would depend a lot on the anime as Kaito said, the death note live action flicked worked cuz only the shinigami were computerized, and yeah a Black Laggon or Gunslinger Girl flick would be awesome

The Wesley Snipes comment made me laugh.. so perfect.
And that wasn't even meant as a joke.
I recall going, ok this looks like an interesting show.
*Watches show*
*blinks eyes*
What the....
That's Wesley Snipes.
*Hits pause on player to go and check online if the character was based after Snipes*
I mean body-wise, facial features, that grin, pretty much exact matches. Voice was different (logical considering it was a Seiyuu speaking in Japanese), but the tone would be something he could pull off.
Shave him bald, give him a goatee and some shades and you're in business.
That would be an interesting and possible failed idea for a live action movie O.o

They've announced a live action movie of Neon Genesis Evangelion, about 2003, but it wouldn't come out yet as they can't find the proper staff. They want to cast children first, to make sure they fit into their roles, and then cast adults which can work well with the children. Some people already said there won't be a NGE movie ever, but, who knows?
