This seems like it was one of the funniest episodes so far. Alas, I didn't get a single one of the references, despite Chirhiro's overwhelmingly lengthy translators' notes.

i guess its specifically targeted at the japanese since most of them are japanese folktales...well i read up on these folktales and found out some of them(like the 7 lucky gods) actually originated from a religion called taoism, a religion based in china and asia...
What has happened to this series? I guess you would need to be familiar with Japanese folktales. I don't think prior knowledge of the referenced material would have aided in anyway.
While episode 22 was a top tier episode for the series this episode was a complete bust. This episode belongs is the garbage with the magical girl and pregnant alien cat episodes.
i dont really agree with 22 being top tier as the only thing that happened was rito glanced at haruna a few times but 23 was utterly useless. we have 3 episodes left, i really hope something happens. if not im going to be seriously dissapointed, but im still waiting on ZnTnR episode 10 and itazura na kiss episode 22 so at least i have something else to look forward to besides this failboat
No, 23 was a good episode. The thing that makes this show great is its use of humor. The plot is just there to frame the jokes. Reference humor is potentially good humor, and when it's perverted with inappropriate nudity and involves spontaneous characters, it's generally even funnier. The problem is just that we don't get the references so a perfectly good episode is wasted on us.
i still think this is quite a good episode especially to foreigners lol...it gives us a taste of japanese culture and religion which basically enchances our understanding of this wonderful country...
I think people expect too much out of this show. I would say its kind of along the same genre of lucky star but with ecchi. Though it would seem to have a plot because of how the series is set up (rito and his relationships with the various girls), they just use that in their jokes or humor.
But I think this series could easily be made with a real plot. Just make the episodes with some sort of structure, make the episodes show how the story progresses, and bam that's a good start.

I laughed at the part when Saruyama got swarmed with those aliens xD. Even though this episode wasn't one of the funny ones its still ok, but I'm hoping that the next episode is back to the plot.
