Clannad, Shuffle, D.C. II to Launch 3D Virtual World
Quote:
The Japanese technology news source ITmedia reports that five companies will launch ai space, a 3D virtual world where users can interact with bishōjo game heroines from Clannad, Shuffle!, and D.C. II: Da Capo II, this summer. Headlock (Detective Evangelion, Neon Genesis Evangelion Battle Orchestra) is developing the world which will have characters from the game developers Visual Art's (Clannad), Omegavision (Shuffle!), and CIRCUS (D.C. II: Da Capo II). The Dwango online service provider will support the service's infrastructure. Each game franchise will be recreated on its own virtual island.
Each users will be able to create his (or her) own avatar as well as select one bishōjo character as a personal character doll ("chara-doll"). The avatar and the chara-doll can then live together on one of the islands — complete with a house and furniture that they can be buy. The chara-doll will be able to wear different costumes (based on in-game items), memorize various motions to act out, and dance. The developers claim that each chara-doll can develop a unique personality for each user.
The different islands will be connected by a tentatively titled "Akihabara Island," where the different avatar/chara-doll pairs can gather for chatting and events. Dwango's Niwango subsidiary plans to incorporate the Nico Nico Anime Channel from the Nico Nico Douga online video service (which boasts over 6 million users) into the virtual world. On the real-world Nico Nico Douga site, the companies have posted a teaser video that was presented at the last Winter Comic Market convention. The singer KOTOKO (Shakugan no Shana, Please Teacher!) will perform the first theme song.

Um...that sounds like a fail... I really don't think making it 3D will make a series like D.C popular again...

Well besides that, it'll be a big online community. Most likely similar to MMORPGS. It's worth a shot.

Very good point. A Bleach or Naruto anime would do very well in the US.
But you have to keep in mind, that this will most likely be worldwide, meaning Japan, Europe, etc. Japanese approval of shows matters a lot more than the US's.

Imagine a 3D bleach game online but how would the storyline or battle line thing go? Like 1v1 player or something? Or like a adventure game that you buy stuff and go to other places and different swords maybe?

That'd be the best route, but they wouldn't be able to stick to the storyline that well. The different arcs would be different "worlds" or "lands" I imagine. It's an interesting concept, and I'd actually like to see that.

Last mention of total active customers from Blizzard for WoW was at 10.5 million people. Wee bit more than that 6 million. And one can expect a spike when WotLK comes out.
