Plot: The story of D.Gray-man takes place on a fictional Earth at the end of the 19th century. The plot mostly centers around Allen Walker, a young boy who is a member of The Black Order; a secretive organization whose members are known as Exorcists. The Order's primary mission is to stop The Millennium Earl, an ancient being who intends to 'cleanse' the world by destroying all life on it. As the series goes on, he meets fellow exorcists and engages in battle with numerous demons and new enemies.
Exorcists are specially chosen humans who are gifted with the ability to control and use Innocence, a divine substance created in ages past to combat the Earl and his minions. According to the Order's history, 109 fragments of Innocence were scattered around the world at the end of The Great Flood. Once an Innocence fragment is found to be compatible to a particular user, it can become a weapon or tool for the user to wield in battle.
Review: Originally I, like most people, started out skeptical of this new series that was at the time, only up to about 58 episodes. However, I quickly developed an addiction to this new series. The points about it that were so attractive was an interesting plot, moreover, with even more interesting characters. There's a saying, "without good characters, there's no story" or something like that. Anyways, D. Gray-man's characters are all really enjoyable to watch and see, especially that effeminate dude named Kanda wielding a sword named Mugen and activating it like Demon Eyes Kyo (hmm.. do I smell a conspiracy?), as well as Allen himself who is quite an interesting main character that takes my awe when playing poker (and cheating hilariously XD)! D. Gray-man centers mainly on the travels of Allen on his various missions to exorcise demons while meeting new exorcists, generals, and unfortunately for him, Noahs and the Millenium Earl. The villains in this series are intriguing and very unconventional. Unlike a lot of series, aside from the demons that provide regular entrances only to be slashed apart by Allen or Kanda or Lavi, or whatever, the Noah and the Earl are quite mysterious and as the series goes on, extremely powerful. To add to this, D. Gray-man centers also around a gothic themed landscape, and the background in general are quite dark. Even so this doesn't present the mood found in Black Lagoon and such because of the supernatural and comedic moments. And as I found out, there are fillers in this series. Not another Naruto! you might say, however, the fillers here are definitely much more exciting and interesting that those in Naruto and Bleach. Complete addiction was to be my fate, even after the fillers. See, I didn't even know they were fillers! So coupled with a strong plot, nice settings, and well developed characters, there isn't much that can go wrong in this wonderfully animated gothic themed series. (9.5/10)
Pros: Strong plot, well developed characters, beautiful theming, great animation in fights, unique and creative ideas, and a conspiracy theory for an alternative method of interpreting the Bible! (You'll see when you watch very soon!) The OPs and Endings are great too.
Cons: Not much.
Final Thoughts: I got addicted to some of its OPs and Endings and I stayed up some nights to watch. I constantly anticipate the next episode. Enough said! So go watch this amazing series!!
