Tokyo is ripped away from the mainland by a catastrophic earthquake. This area becomes known as the Lost Ground. So powerful are the natural forces that caused this disaster that a rift is opened in the fabric of our world and the energy of another world bleeds through. Within a generation children are born who begin to exhibit strange abilities. These abilities are dubbed Alter Power, and those who wield it are called Alter Users. These individuals can reorder the structure of matter on a fundamental level, shaping it into other forms to suit their needs. These forms are the physical embodiment of their powers and are unique to each Alter User.
The desolate and dangerous Lost Ground serves as a backdrop for a fascinating character study. Kazuma is a young alter User who does odd-jobs, many of them of a questionable nature, to make money to take care of an orphaned girl named Kanami. Ordinarily Kazuma is hot-headed, boastful and reckless but when it comes to her, he is kind-hearted, revealing a protective, nurturing side. Still, all he wants is to live in peace and be left alone. He does not want to answer to anyone.
But the government agency HOLD doesn't see fit to let Kazuma, or any other Alter User, live in peace. HOLD is acting on orders detain and interrogate any Alter Users they find with the aim of bringing down the rate of crimes committed using Alter Power. The special unit HOLY is dispatched into the Lost Ground to declare martial law. HOLY is itself made up of Alter Users who were taken from the Lost Ground by force and conditioned to obey HOLD. One of its most powerful members is Ryuho, a serious young man who is a true believer, convinced that peace can only be attained through rules and rigid ideology. Secretly, he is also driven by the need to take revenge on a strange being that crossed over from the other world and killed his mother as it blasted its way through the city years before. This being is still there, living deep within the wilderness at the heart of the Lost Ground.
Of course, headstrong Kazuma picks a fight with HOLY when they try to detain him and is taken down by Ryuho. He is taken, along with several other captured Alter Users, back to HOLD headquarters, where tests are run on him. He manages to escape and declares vendetta against Ryuho, who also makes the same promise to Kazuma.
Kazuma and Ryuho clash repeatedly throughout the series as Kazuma fights off the legion of HOLY Alter Users sent to recapture him.
My review:
S-Cry-Ed was awesome, though i watched it in my younger days of anime... when i watched adult swim it was still great. the storyline the characters the animation were all awesome. the fight scenes were great too. None of that all talk and no action stuff... like we usually see. Instead they will actually talk while fighting to keep you entertained and watchful. and even though this anime is mostly action there is little romance. Between kazuma and kanami. I have started to notice that the characters make the anime. no matter how good the plot may be if the characters aren't good the show is dead. But you don't have to worry about that here all the characters are unique or even have a different side to them. leaving you interested i have to say kazuma and Straight cougar were indeed my favorite.
i give S-cry-ed an 8.5/10
