Default Code Geass

Originally when I heard the name I didn't expect much from this show. Why you may ask? Could be because the name resembles Code Lyoko, a show I've sadly seen. Or maybe because it was the first time I'd ever heard of the Anime. Regardless of the preconceived notions I had, I became addicted to it in one brief weekend. I'll do my best to summarize the gist of the show and explain to you why it is a great anime to pick up.

Story: 9/10

Code Geass's story from a far isn't much to look at. Considering, of course, you only see the mechs and rebellious story. This first glance is very misleading because Geass builds it's story with great pacing. When you want a battle you'll get a battle and when you want to know something about someone you'll most likely learn about them. The story builds like a book, however, there are some drawbacks. At some places 'the feel' of the setting was a bit stale. It wasn't a big issue though because the pacing, was once again very good, and sparked a new interest very soon.

Code Geass also does a good job at relating it's story to the modern world. I won't spoil it for you, but lets just say it really makes you think about how easily history repeats itself.

Animation and Sound: 8.5/10

I was really thinking hard on how I can explain these production aspects in Code Geass and finally came to the conclusion on that while not the best out there it holds it's own amongst other Anime. Lets be honest, you won't get FMA type production in Code Geass. But you will probably feel like the developers put a lot of heart into each and every frame. It's truly the symbolic in nearly every aspect. Likewise the music will probably furthen your emotions towards a character or situation.

Characters: 9.5/10

Ask me what I loved most about Code Geass and I will tell you in all honesty the characters. I found the character development in Code Geass to be really profound. Characters go from best of friends to the worst of enemies in a matter of 24 episodes. Not in the unbelievable sense either, because you can really put yourself in their shoes and say, "I would of done the same..." You can almost see the mixed flood of emotions they undoubtedly have.

The character development matches up to something like Death note in terms of the believability of them being real characters. In fact the main character is more real than any other character. He is undoubtedly psychotic, but as crazy as he seems, you can't help but like him, and support him on his conquest in the world of Code Geass.

Overall: 9/10

Code Geass is one of those anime that feel like a forgotten gem. It's something amongst the anime community that I feel didn't get enough recognition. It holds unique aspects and progresses through the story very fluidly. The story had the perfect amount of battle sequences, dialog, and even some comedy.

If your looking for something that will hold your interest and make you think about society and where you stand, than this is for you. Even if you looking for something with cool mech battles and a good opening theme than this is for you too.

I recommend giving the first episode a try if anything. =]
