Seeker for the record i just finished high school and going to college in spring to be a major in Aerospace engineering.
now concerning the world ending, I find it more of a thread that some idiot actually causes a nuclear exchange, since we have been close to it before ( Cuban missile crisis) even when the nuclear stock pile has been reduced it is still a lot and more than enough to earth barren of all but most extreme living organism. If the 10,000 plus war heads don't kill you the radiation that will last for centuries will, but at the very least we will see the biggest fireworks show on the face of the earth.
the two other possibilities are meteor/ comet impact which will be essentially the same a nuclear exchange but bigger explosion.
the other one is, supernova explosion of a star between 1000 -2000 light years a way because it is theorized that certain time of supernova can send concentrated gamma rays, and although it is very unlikely that it hits earth directly, if it does it burn a gapping hole in the ozone ( which already has a hole ), and will leave defenseless against all the radiation of the sun. The point of impact will all melt or even vaporize.
but of course the possibilities are really small considering that there are only a few supernovas every year( but of course if you add up the age of the earth in to equation some thing that has a 1 in billions probability should have theoretically already happen four times, to date it hasn't happened.
who know really
and immense summary but u never took into account of viruses or bacteria. one of the most deadly things on earth, the plague for example wiped out a shit load of humans same with smallpox.
but ur not a biologist so i understand. also one of my friends is doing aerospace engineering, he tells me its an amazing course so i hope u enjoy it
also @ cloudclash.. google earth is a still picture of the earth and space, suppose u can tell if things that are moving, but not if they are heading towards you. u cant see the trail because its behind the object.
so really the object would have to be moving at about a 15 degree to be able to see the objects trail.

well true that germs could also be a factor but as science has developed, we would not be wiped out instantly, and we would have a fighting chance, rather than hit kill, to say the least a Viral epidemic is something that humanity has faced many times and has survived many times, the human body is not a weak as it looks, but there is still a change of that ill admit, it will be a slow painful death rather than a quick kill, tell you the truth i prefer Nuclear Holocaust than Epidemic any say
Oh and aerospace is sweet, but hard as hell as well, but i also was think of doing a double major with astronomy as well

nice aerospace is cool in all, but a lot of the jobs are for the military, if you're fine doing that. Idk I was pretty good at the stuff, I designed a few things when I was younger.
The world will end when the Zentradi come to earth. And all out war ensues afterwards.
But we need some vf's jk

OK here the science behind it, in order to be a planet it has to be big ( now days pluto is not that a planet any more), and in order to come close it has to have an extremely elliptical path ( like a comet does), if it was the size of a planet and had such path the gas giant would have swallowed with their gravitational pull, if not the sun would have eaten it up because for a planet that size to be that close to the sun it need the effect of jupiter to balance out the gravitational forces ( reason why mercury, venus, earth, mars and ceres are in betwen jupiter and the sun, the gravity from both and their respective distaces and the centripical force in balance. pluto which is a darft planet with a very elliptica path, every seventy years or so crosses neptunes path and althouhg they haven't collided, it is all in the reall of possibililty.
I'm sorry to say, but Jupiter has nothing to do with the inner 4 planets orbital path.
The reason we haven't been swallowed by the sun is because as the planets orbit, they do get a bit closer to the sun in a "spiral" motion. Now you would think that it would just spiral into the sun eventually, which is what I once though myself, until I learned that as it gets closer, it speeds up. When it speeds up, it pulls away from the Sun a bit, keeping the path an ellipse shaped orbit.
Oh and aerospace is sweet, but hard as hell as well, but i also was think of doing a double major with astronomy as well
quick death > slow death
also if u think u can do it, take the double major and run as far as u can with it.
My other friend loves her course (astrophysics basically) and shes now in 4th year and still in love with it, but she still manages to have a great social life lol.

Astrophysics is fun. I want to take it but my school only has regular physics, which is boring.
Hobox it is true the centripetal force it the main factor for the orbit, but Jupiter and the other gas planets account for the slightly elliptical path of earth, and so keeping that acceleration and deaacceleration cycle, remenber gravity affect every object in the universes ( a more in depth explanation when Jupiter is farthest away form earth the sun effect is greater, but one it gets closer due to the increased speed the increased gravitatinal force of jupiter as it gets closer, take the earth away from the sun and the cycle continues) in the case of Kuper belt objects ( past pluto ) infulence of the sun is less felt, but it still has the combined influence of all the inner plane thus depending on the position of the planets the gravitatinal force guiding the planet design it path, now the probelm is is that is nearly impossible to calculate the effect of three masses or more it requires some fancy math that only lead to an approximation rather than an exact answer.
Lighty astrophisic Physic of the stars ( essentailly how stars behave according to laws of physics) among it most famous subject is the study of black hole ( it essetially the same thing as astronomy, but more math and physics )

No, once again, Jupiter has no gravitational effects on the Earth, except it can curve asteroids away from hitting us. We do not orbit around Jupiter, therefore Jupiter exerts no centripetal forces on the planet. Besides, most of the time, Jupiter is on the other side of the sun from us, which is far past it's radius of gravity.
Hobox every object in the universe that has mass has gravitational for a affecting all other object in the universe, granted some are minute and unnoticeable, earth does not have to be in orbit with Jupiter to be affected by gravity, but Jupiter is huge and it has a substantial gravity, but it also far away as is the sun, let me give you an example there is black hole in the center of the galaxy, it has subtatial mass but our solar system is very far away from it, yet the still revolve around it becasue of its gravitatinal force and the force of surrounding star so adding the gravity up even though it is far away gravity still affects us
