Starwars the force unleashed
DEMO IS OUT!!!!
Alright I just got done playing it and here are my impressions.
Lets start with the...
Introduction
Vader wants you to dispatch of your first jedi. This jedi's been doing some invading on a TIE fighter factory. Vader doesn't want the emperor to know of your existence. You must kill EVERYONE including stormtroopers. Here begins the demo
Gameplay
Well the controls need some getting used to. It's not your typical action where its pretty much one direction. Which can be both a good and bad thing. The good thing is that it feels more open. Bad thing is that you have to constantly (though not always) have to worry about your camera. Lets just thank god this game lets you control the camera.
You get three force moves (and only three) and one "melee". X is your saber move. Of course depending on what you're doing it'll do a different attack. Y is your force lightning. Electrocute your opponents with epic lightning. B is your force push. Someone in your way? Press this button and yell GTFO for a 100% satisfactory "forced" push. The Right trigger is your force grip. This handy dandy little thing is what you're most likely going to be using most. This is the button that lets you pick anything up with your mind...well maybe not your mind. You use this with your left analog stick to move it right left forward and back. Right stick to move it up and down as well as right to left.
There are plentiful combos you can do. For instance. Mix up force grip with some lightning to make whatever you're holding a bomb. Throw it and BOOM. Death. Mix with the saber and you get to throw your saber boomerang style at them. Mix with push and..well....you push them. Mix and match all these different things to do what you please young apprentice.
Graphics/physics/bugs
Graphics are superb. Though there isn't much you can tell in the demo stage. The DMM (Digital Molecular Matter) engine seems to run great. The AI of the Euphoria engine is kicking in pretty well. No more throwing objects at AI who accept them with open arms. They'll actually try to get away this time! The physics are all well. Though now a days there aren't much games that have problems with physics. There weren't too many bugs that were in the demo. There were occasions where the dead ragdoll would kinda flop over and over and over or a TIE fighter appearing then disappearing (only happened once) but besides that its all good.
Sound
As expected from Lucas Arts the sound is amazing. Though I'm only using my standard TV audio and do not have a surround system I could still tell how great the audio is. If you have a theatre system you'll think you're watching the movie in the movie theatre.
Wrap-up
Though the demo was short and didn't seem to show off much of the DMM engine it was still a great demo. Though it might not be something I'd play over and over (the demo of course) I'll give it at least another play since I was able to get a hang of the controls towards the end. The AI are better than most games out there though there were times I'd enter a new "stage" and some AI would be standing there doing nothing (guessing the script only makes them notice you when you're close enough to shock the shit out of them?).
Anyways its shaping up to be a great game. Though I really do with we had another stage or at least made the demo longer. There also seems to be a little customize option (which we can't access) that lets you choose your costume. I'd assume so as the option was called "Costumes". :/
