Ah, someone who suggested Maple Story. I was waiting for this moment.
As I posted previously but will reiterate here, Maple Story is a far from free game. Take note that the person that I just quoted suggesting Maple Story is level 33. I got to level 166, and I'm telling you not to play this game. It's extremely addictive, you say it looks gay or whatever but decide to play anyway, big mistake. It's epic grinding, but what they do right is FULL customization of a character. Literally with NX cash you can make your character look nothing like anyone elses in the whole server. NX cash isn't free, 5000 nx points = $5 USD. Not to mention after about level 50 the time it takes to level quadruples, if not more. Considering at level 166 it takes around 300,000,000 million experience to hit the next level, where the strongest mobbing monster in the game gives a mere 4,100 experience each. So pretty much, you're going to have to invest in a "2x Card" which during a time slot you choose you get 4 hours of 2x the experience the monster would have given. Now, after you bought this 2x card you are committed to sitting on this game for 4 hours straight or you wasted your money on this card.
I can go on for hours about the lack of GM moderation, the poor hack prevention and design of the game. Anyone with great knowledge of C++ able to packet edit can take any item and duplicate it as much as they choose without risk of prosecution from Nexon. This also leads to hacking into a characters profile, long as you know their log in id you can log on any character with the proper hacking tools and knowledge.
The community is pretty much filled with 10-16 year old naruto/ bleach fans *nothing wrong so far* that care about nothing but what stat gear you have, how to spell improperly and to use the worst possible grammar so that it pisses you off. In your chat box you'll be seeing, xNaurtoSinBoi495 say to you "plz get of me map ksin me? I bring friend n guild ks u ass" so pretty much your dealing with kids that think they can be Naruto on this game and think their the shit, extremely annoying.
I continue to talk on vent with my guild from Maple Story, their a great group of guys between the ages of 17-25. I play Counter Strike and tons of other games with them. But it took literally 2 years of playing, training 8-12 hours a day sometimes more, hundreds of dollars in NX and a drawer in my night stand dedicated to hiding all my progress alerts. The irony is its a guild called Vengeance, the most hated guild in Scania for being "no life pricks."
So in the end, I sold my Maple Story character for $2000, have a girlfriend *had her while playing ms, and she played too, the irony* and play other games with the same people and am having more fun. Unless you can train 8-12 hours a day, spend about 25 bucks every 2 weeks and can ignore preteen douche bags, this game will be nothing more than a waste of money and that "1 gig" of hard drive space on your computer.
