So yeah, as a couple of you have noticed (from my picture of myself in my profile) that I do Judo, so yeah. I decided to start a topic discussing general martial arts.
So why is Judo so awesome that it deserves a thread made about it? Because it is, and you actually get to fight people, with no holding back. Though now I'm really pissed because they're changing the grading system in uk so that you don't get to fight for your grade anymore >___> how suckish is that. If you're wondering how I got involved in Judo ... about 3 years ago, whilst playing badminton I put the most annoying girl in the world into a headlock. So my mum thought I needed something to vent my aggression into and her friend from uni had done Judo to do that, so that's how I started.
So anyone else do/ have done any sort of martial arts? How did you get involved? what do you like best about it? What don't you like about it? Yeah, discuss.
also, for Ichinaru, here's my vids from my grading (this is how I go up grades ^_^ I'm now a blue belt, I was a green belt before! In this fight I'm the one in the blue belt, and the large patch on my back, with the plat in my hair. Also, I did these fights back to back without any rests between them, so when I did my third fight in a row(that I'm not going to put here because I loose about as quickly as I beat the person in the first one) I was really tired):- http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=SV202614.flv http://s135.photobucket.com/albums/q...t=SV202615.flv
Im more of a street fighting style but u were kickin ass there keep it up, if im ever in the uk and get in over my head I know who to call

I don't do Judo, so I know nothing about it. This question will probably sound dumb. LOL Does Judo have more to do with pinning/holding moves? I guess I always pictured it more like kicks, punches, etc.

Isn't it strange that day by day nothing changes, but when you look back everything's different?
Harry:- just phone me and I shall run away with great speed, people scare me
Ara:- Actually Judo has no kicks/ punches of any kind. Judo means "the gentle way", so the point of it is not to actually block, just move out of the way. So Judo is great, because you can actually practice it without holding back and not do some techniques that you've learn because it could actually kill them, of course there are banned techniques ... but you don't get taught them, so you don't know how to do them. Jujitsu is what Judo was derived from, Jujitsu has combinations of throws, hold-downs, kicks, punches, joint-locks and strangles. Judo takes the throws, hold-downs, arm-locks and strangles. (That's right, we get to strangle people XD though there are ways that you do it so that it is safe.)
Ya judo is cool i take jujutsu though but keep it up. ya i started when my friend was telling me about a Japanese weapons class and martial arts class he took but it was canceled. So both of us love that stuff so we decided to try out jujutsu

Code Geass is the best show out there!!!
And i am an ultra mega uber fan of it!
Go Lelouch and Kallen
^awesome I take jujutsu as well (all self taught though), also I train in karate, a bit of Muay Thai (boxing w/fists and legs), and also I train with a practice katana. I haven't been doing much of it lately but now I think I'll pick it up again.
Oh yeah, I also mix some of those martial arts with street fight style. Also I have studied pressure points in the human body as well to accompany my training.

I practice judo and i think its amazing, just cos it is lol.
i got into it when i was in uni and i wanted to pick up a martial art so i started judo, kendo and i no longer remeber the name of the 3rd one, but after a few weeks i realized that kendo is to rigid for my liking and judo was exactly what i wanted, no punching kicking and i could but all my force into my moves... theres one thing i hate, and thats when ur training partner sandbags you. i also love training on pressure points, if you can grab the person the right way before i throw the sharp pain disables there right/left arm and leaves them open for the throw, on the ground if while placing in a headlock or arm lock u place pressure on the pressure points they tap out much quicker.
although my fav part has to be the chokes, although sadly they banned my fav choke (the triangle choke, u may know it from MMA)
i also have sword practice but i tend to do that myself at night so no one sees or annoys me, but its best with a partner, but judo is just <3
if i ever get any vids i ll post them up for yall.

cool my fav pressure point is the solar plexus (right below your sternum) which when struck usually knocks the wind out of the opponent (with a solid palmthrust puts them easily on the floor), and the carotid artery in the shoulder (put your thumb right behind the collarbone, and push down, pinch, pull up a bit and hold for a few seconds)
CAUTION! do not do that unless you know what you are doing, using it results in blacking out for a second or two or unconsciousness but if done for too long or incorrectly it can cause death.

lmao. i'm a 2nd poom in taekwondo, which also means almost-black but not black xD cause for some reason you have to be 15/16 to take the black belt test >.> so yeah basically im just waiting right now.
err umm taekwondo means punch kick punch/kick (i know -.-) >.> i wanted to learn kendo but where the hell in my country do you even get to learn that?
my favourite is err like when someone grabs your hand, you use this technique to twist their hand over. there are a series of simple self defenses in case someone *touches* you, like pressing somewhere above the elbow and sending them to the ground.
now that i read my post again i don't make any sense >.>

ohhh that one, i had that done to me once, it felt horrible but they never done it properly so i never blacked out.
my favourite one is in biceps , one quick sharp shot to that sends a painful electric like shock up there arm, if done correctly will the stun the arm from moving for a few seconds, very effective

I have no idea... I have practiced kendo before with a friend of mine that is into kendo, but he had to teach himself. He is good at kendo with the shinai. I'm am a lot better with a wooden katana or a wooden wakizashi, and I use those instead, but I avoid hitting him directly, only to disarm him. But getting hit with a shinai hurts like... well there isn't really one word to describe it but you get some really nasty bruises. It's too bad he moved away... now I don't have a sword practice partner.

there is one word that can discribe it but i shant say it lol. when i practice im much better off with 2 wakizashi, my left arm defends, my right arm attacks, but i sometimes swap over if i notice an opening i can take advantage of... i never liked kendo thouhg, did u not find it to rigid, stab, or vertical stabs are mostly all that is allowed its rather grusome, although very effective
