First anime/manga ever?

Is Astro boy the first manga/anime ever? I was just wondering o.o Astro boy is pretty old right?

Many yrs ago i started with crap like Yataman and .. i dont remember .. i think GiGi was his name, small guy who plays basketball.. but it wasnt really anime ^^ or maybe it was. But few years later i felt for Captain Tsubasa. ^^ However manga wasnt very popular in those days so i didnt know much about it. I started read manga couple yrs ago, and 1one was DragonBall.

Not Astro Boy, though it was a manga by the same person. Acording to a book on manga that I own he debuted with "New Treasure Island" in 1947 but also "Ma-chan no Nikkichou" in 1946. I suspect that "Ma-chan no Nikkichou" wasn't in what we could call as much of a manga style as we would call it and that "New Treasure Island" was meant to've been quite a turning point.

Though manga was also present before this time, it was only read as children stories.

What is this " New Treasure Island"? If it is the Treasure Island that I am thinking of then wow that must be old.

Yattaman kicked ass btw... they are making a live action movie about it I think.
