If you like "girlish" type series
I recommend:
Hana Yori Dango (Boys over flowers)
sukushi Makino is a student at the prestigious and very exclusive school- Eitoku Gakuen. This school is attended by the children of Japan's elite society. Since Makino is poor, she is often teased by her classmates. For a girl that is naturally filled with spunk and an independent spirit, she tends to be timid at Eitoku Academy. That is until she has her first face to face encounter with the F4. The F4 (Flower 4) are the four richest and attractive men that attend and own the school. In a brave effort, Makino tries to defend her one and only friend, who accidentally offended the F4's leader Tsukasa Domyoji. Unfortunately she ends up causing the wrath of F4 to fall upon her, instead of her friend. But there was something that the leader of the F4 didn't expect. He didn't expect for her fight back. He didn't expect her to not care about his status. He didn't expect the feelings that began to bloom between Tsukushi Makino and himself, Tsukasa Domyoji. Could there be more to them than mutual hatred and defiance? How deep did this feeling extend? And could he have her and still live up to the Domyoji name?
Kodomo No Omocha
Miho Obana's "Kodomo No Omocha" (translated: "Child's Toy") follows, as it's central star, Sana Kurata--a cute, redheaded 11-year-old TV and film star, who has an uncontrollably hyper and active personality. Seriously. This girl is LITERALLY bouncing and smiling and singing all over the place.
She's the star of the live-action after school show "Child's Toy," one of the most popular shows in Japan--though we actually spend very little time concerned with her affairs on the show. The main focus of the series puts the spotlight on Sana's life, the people and friends and enemies in her life, and her reactions and developments as a child, and as a human being.
At the beginning of "Child's Toy," she is pitted against fellow classmate Akito Hayama. Hayama is a very calm, passive individual. Very little bothers him (on the surface, anyway) and he is almost always in control of himself. The conflict between him and Sana not only stems from the dichotomy of personalities (very calm V.S. very emotional), but also because of the situation that occurs in their class. Hayama, through the execution of certain covert activities, has found the weak spot of their spineless teacher; and because Hayama could easily get her fired from her job, the teacher allows Akito and his followers of mindless male classmates to wreak havoc upon the class.
Sana does not like this. Needless to say, she (very vocally) stands up against Hayama. And all hell breaks loose.
Marmalade Boy
Koishikawa Miki is a typical, ditzy high school girl. Involved with tennis, with plenty of friends, she seems to be living the good life. She thinks nothing of the vacation her parents take to Hawaii ... until they return and announce that, not only are they getting a divorce, but that they are getting remarried! Apparently they had affairs with another Japanese couple and have decided to swap spouses. (Wasn't that the plot of a 70s movie?)
Of course, things only get crazier when she meets the completely aloof, yet oh-so-handsome son of the other couple, Matsuura Yuu. Naturally, despite the fact they're practically step-siblings, they fall for each other. But they try to keep it a secret from their family, and most of the school. Never mind that the rest of the school is preoccupied with their *own* jumbled
relationships
Full Moon wo Sagashite
On its surface, Full Moon wo Sagashite resembles many other "kawaii" anime with its vibrant colors and cute character designs, but beneath this exterior is a serious and often depressing drama. It is an interesting combination that manages to maintain a fine balance between emotional scenes and lighthearted moments.
Full Moon wo Sagashite doesn't start out as a serious drama, though; instead, the early episodes are a bright and happy look into life as a pop idol dealing with issues like the paparazzi and concerts. These episodes are fun, but there is little focus on the plot. However, the series really picks up in the second act with a totally unexpected plot twist that delivers one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride. This momentum continues through the conclusion, and after all that build up, the finale does not disappoint.
Accompanying the on-screen action is a standout soundtrack. J-Pop star Myco lends her voice to the series and does a great job as both Mitsuki's singing voice and seiyuu. The vocal pieces are all topnotch and have quickly become personal favorites. The background music isn't quite as amazing but compliments the series nicely. Myco's songs alone make the OST a must-have.
While the beginning of it seems to be all fun and games, Full Moon wo Sagashite is moving drama. The latter half of the series is full of heart-wrenching moments, and the endearing cast of characters truly shines throughout it all. While some people are bound to be put off by the cute appearance, anyone who enjoys J-Pop and is looking for a good drama should definitely look into this anime.
Full Metal Panic (Though while it isnt a romance so much, it has a lot of comedy - plus your boyfriend will definately watch it)
Sagara Sosuke may look like a high school boy, but he is anything but your average teenager: hardened by years of battle, he is now one of the most skilled (and humorless) operatives of the secretive and powerful paramilitary MITHRIL organization. All this changes, however, when he, along with the lecherous sniper Kurtz Weber and ornery commander Melissa Mao, are assigned to protect pretty young Chidori Kaname, who may be one of the mysterious and sought-after "Whispered". Trained assassins, mech-piloting psychopaths, and booby traps, Sagara can deal with... it's infiltrating a Japanese high school and trying to blend in that's the real challenge. And he will learn that an enraged girl can be the most lethal opponent of all.
Fushigi Yuuigi
Plot Summary: Miaka Yuuki, an average middle school student caught up in studying for exams, is sucked into an ancient Chinese novel titled "The Universe of Four Gods". There she discovers that she is in an ancient country in what is now China, Konan, and is to be the Priestess of one of the four gods, Suzaku. As the priestess, her duty is to gather the Seven Seishi of Suzaku, who are to be her protectors. Once they are gathered, the priestess will summon the god Suzaku and bring peace between the warring lands, Konan and Kutou. But it's harder than it seems. Along the road, many hardships are faced, as Miaka's best friend Yui Hongo enters the book and becomes her rival, the priestess of Seiryuu in the land of Kutou. Who summons their god first is up to the courage and skill of the priestesses and their seishi, as they meet triumphs and tragedies along the way.
